Which marked card technology is best for you ?

In general, Ultra-Luminous, N-Dust (latest Juice technology) and regular luminous are the most deceptive products used to mark cards, even though other methods to mark playing cards are available.

The following "Decision Tree" will help you decide which marked card method is best for you. However, yur choice can be simplified by asking your question about price. While the initial cost may seem expensive to some, in reality your average cost per deck is very reasonable. For example:

  • Ultra-Luminous is very expensive ($2,100 for the sunglass package or $3,100 for the contact lens package) Unfortunately, the best also comes at a high price. Ultra-Luminous works on plastic, paper and most color cards. Ultra-Luminous also comes with, easy to use, solution/ink and daub/dust. The Ultra-Luminous daub/dust may be used to secretly mark a borrowed deck while people are watching.

    • Ultra-Luminous - average cost to mark a deck is about $18 for the sunglass package.(*)

  • Juice does not require the use of sunglasses or contact lenses. N-Dust ($249) is the latest Juice technology and works on most color cards, as well as most paper or plastic cards. Please be aware that all Juice products will take practice to learn how to read.  However, optional, Juice Enhancing Sunglasses ($89) will make the learning process easier. NOTE: Juice and Luminous technology are very different, the chemicals and sunglasses are based upon different scientific principals and are not interchangeable.

    • N-Dust (Juice) - average cost to mark a deck is about $3 (*)

  • Regular Luminous marker and Luminous Enhancing Sunglasses ($208) only work well when the solution is applied to the red printed areas of red backed paper playing cards.

    • Regular Luminous - average cost to mark a deck is about $8.32 (*)

  • Video Luminous is the most deceptive technology. So, you think that spending $6,000 - $18,000 for a hidden camera in a phone, key fob, wallet or bag is a good way to see marked cards ? Think again ! Video Luminous has many advantages over Chinese "Texas Hold'em poker" edge marked card systems.

(*) - NOTE: The actual number of decks you will be able to mark will vary depending upon the size and intensity of your marks. Generally, the estimates are conserviative and I persoanlly can mark more decks than quoted in the estimates.

In a nutshell, you must decide:

Question Comments regarding product trade offs
Are you using Red or Blue backed playing cards? Red backed playing cards:
  • NU-CONcept's Luminous marker or Ultra-Luminous
  • Juice - NU-Concept's Red Juice marker OR Red Juice Dust (TM) OR N-Dust (TM)

Blue backed cards:

  • NU-CONcept's Blue Juice marker OR Blue Juice Dust (TM)
  • Ultra-Luminous

Don't know what color cards you plan on using ? N-Dust or Ultra-Luminous work on a very wide variety of playing card colors.

Note: Ultra-Luminous can be used to mark the white border's of playing cards.

How much effort you are willing to put into learning to read marked cards?
Type Product Difficulty to read Deceptiveness
Luminous & Ultra-Luminous 1) Luminous Marker is recommended on red paper cards. 2) Luminous daub and Luminous Dust (TM) on paper cards may be difficult to use. 3) Ultra-Luminous works well on most color cards and it also works on most 100% plastic cards.

Easy

Very deceptive (Requires filtered sunglasses to read marks)

Marks may be read close-up or across a table

Tintwork marking patterns Juice Marker OR

Juice Dust (TM) OR

N-Dust (TM)

Medium Much more deceptive than standard "professionally marked cards" (ie. scroll and block-out work, Wild/Leslie). But, not as deceptive as Juice or Flash

Marks may be read close-up or across a table

Juice marking patterns Juice Marker OR

Juice Dust (TM) OR

N-Dust (TM)

Medium (A little more practice than tintwork unless you use Juice Enhancing Sunglasses (TM) as a learning aid) Extremely deceptive - may be more deceptive than luminous because no filtered sunglasses are required

Marks may be read close-up or across a table

Flash marking patterns (only for experienced professional) Flash Dust (TM) is similar to Juice Dust (TM) except for one ingredient and proportions of the basic elements. You also need much more dust to make flash cards which is why it is more expensive. Difficult Most deceptive (no filter/sunglasses required)

Marks may be read close-up or across a table

All NU-CONcept solutions, daub and dust products are easy to apply to playing cards.

Click here for a 10.9MB WMV (Windows Media File) of an actual Juiced card marked with NU-CONcept Juice marker  (no theatrics like in the movie shade). Marking a juiced deck with  NU-CONcept markers, uses same "simple as writing" techniques as the luminous demo below. The main difference is that with luminous, you use filtered sunglasses as an aid to make the marks appear darker and sort of "pop-out" at you vs. un-focusing your eyes without the use of filtered sunglasses. (In addition, the scientific principal behind juice is different than luminous.)

Movie clip from the movie "Shade"  Juice from Shade.mov (6.4 MB) (To play this movie clip you may need a free copy of the Apple QuickTime Player http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/) - This is Hollywood's version of a "Juiced" marked card, but, it get's the point across. (If you enjoy sleight of hand, you may also enjoy the film; the trailer which may be found at - http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808413759/info )

Note: The above files are large and may take 1-2 minutes to download via cable modem. So please be patient.

Is wearing sunglasses reasonable?

If not, use Juice or Juice Dust (TM) !

I wear sunglasses when performing gambling exposés and/or magic and it is common for people people to wear sunglasses in the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour - Luminous shade requires sunglasses vs. JUICE/FLASH/Tint work which does not require any filtered sunglasses.

If you don't want to wear filtered sunglasses, then NU-CONcept recommends that you learn to read Juice OR tintwork marked cards made with a NU-CONcept Juice marker or Juice Dust (TM).

Why NU-CONcept does not sell pre-marked playing cards ?

Since different people perceive luminous and juice shade slightly differently under different lighting conditions AND since playing cards are so easy to mark with NU-CONcept products. We want to give our customers maximum flexibility to mark cards based upon their experience level and needs. You control your own destiny with NU-CONcept !

Companies who sell pre-marked cards, try to decide what  looks good for them in their environment (This does not mean that you can easily read their pre-marked luminous or juice cards.) In addition, you are stuck with "standard" marks which may be read by anyone who bought the same pre-marked cards.

With NU-CONcept you can come up with your own unique creative/deceptive marking patterns OR mix and match tons of ideas in depicted in the NU-CONcept manuscript. Having the ability to easily control the intensity of your marks and design your own marking patterns are two of the  main reasons why NU-CONcept does not sell pre-marked cards and feels that marking your own cards is far superior. Of course, the fact that most NU-CONcept products reduce your average cost to mark a deck to less than $6 (plus 1 hour of your time)...that is a great advantage also.

NOTE: Each order of NU-CONcept's solution, marker or daub/dust comes with a few hand marked cards using the same product which was ordered by you. This not only insures quality, but, it also insures that each shipped order works as advertised. In addition, these sample cards provide NU-CONcept's customer's with examples of what the marks should look like. They also may be used to help customer's decide if they prefer light, medium or dark marks on their cards.

The NU-CONcept web site is very large with a lot of information to read

Therefore, we have developed about 1 hour worth of FREE audio tracks and video clips to make learning easy !

(Each track in the NU-CONcept Marked Card Library runs about 5 - 8 minutes)
